Path in the heights of the Mountain of Colors

Peru

I attended a presentation in a place in the center of Cusco; good music, good dancing, I ate very rich, had a few glasses of unique flavors and macerates. Later, back to my hotel, tired from the bustle, I fell fast asleep. In the best of my dream I felt someone knock on my door, I woke up confused, when I saw who it was, I discovered that the hotel manager had come to inform me that my tour service to visit the "Rainbow Mountain" was waiting for me. Scared I got up and in less than a rooster crows I was ready for adventure. I got down somewhat embarrassed by the delay, I got in the car and I saw many new faces, some of them just as scared as me. Take a seat and the car was not moving after a few minutes I saw another participant of the tour arrive from the same hotel where I was. I felt better knowing that it was not the last in fact I made a small claim to him in the sense of his punctuality; "Your sheets stuck to you" and with the confidence of the case we undertook the adventure.

A few minutes were enough for me to fall completely asleep. Unexpectedly I felt sudden movements from the car, we had left the asphalt track and we were on a dusty road, I could no longer sleep the landscapes looked very interesting besides that I noticed that we were no longer at the same height as Cusco Intrigued by the location, I asked my guide where we were and he replied that we were at almost 4500 meters of elevation. The next thing was to arrive at a parking lot where there were already many cars, the guide gave us many recommendations, which I did not pay much attention because my mind was on the fantastic landscapes around. It was time to get off the car, when I did, I felt a frozen air but at the same time a purity in it. I started the walk, with great impetus I began to walk quickly, I felt agile, free, and the environment helped with the adventure. 10 minutes later I felt that my heart wanted to go out through my mouth, I was looking for a place to sit but people passed me by and I did not want to be left behind, it was impossible for me to take another step. After a few minutes my guide realized my condition, he sat next to me and began to talk to me, he told me funny things and he made me smile where there was none. I understood perfectly that I had to reduce my speed, that I had to dose my breathing. After calming down, I started the walk again, this time I did it prudently and I understood that at that altitude of almost 5000 meters the history of the tortoise and the hare was gaining strength. The next thing I saw was a snowy peak forming a glacial lagoon, what beauty, what perfection, seeing such a formation stopped me in time.

Walking and resting, that was my walking pace. I think that after two hours I reached a very steep part, when I looked up to a viewpoint, I saw many people taking photos and celebrating their triumph, I understood that the mountain next to me was the famous "Rainbow Mountain" I knew what I should do The last effort, although I felt faint, at times I thought that I should have taken another option, maybe a visit to the city or a delicious lunch with a cold beer but I could not turn back I was already there so to move on. 10 minutes later I was almost completing my adventure, although it seemed like an eternity. I arrived at the viewpoint and as soon as I turned around I saw the wonder that I never expected to see. No previously seen photo does justice to the genius of the geological nature existing in the mountain, the combination of colors and their continuity. Indescribable. In an effort to take as many photos as possible of the environment, I was surprised that on the opposite side was one of the highest snow-capped peaks in Cusco and Peru, the imposing “Ausangate”. All the effort was worth it, I felt that I had conquered a part of the planet. Later when I returned to Cusco somewhat sore from the physical effort, I did not stop marveling at everything I had seen, I had achieved it, I had conquered 5020 meters of altitude above sea level, I had reached the "Rainbow Mountain".
