Choquequirao tour 4 days is an incredible and strenuous hike that will take you to one of the last refuges of the Inca civilization. Choquequirao (3,303 masl. / 10,168 feet) is a large archaeological site that is still under bushes and restoration process, located in the surroundings of the sacred mountain Salkantay (APU) (6,272 masl. / 20679 feet) and the Apurimac River. You will observe wonderful mountain landscapes, as well as many Andean flora and fauna.
Very early we leave Cusco beginning a trip of around 4 hours in a private vehicle, heading northwest passing through the populated centers of Izcuchaca, Limatambo and Cachora, until we reach Capuliyoc, the starting point of our adventure. After a delicious lunch we began to descend the west cliff of the Apurímac canyon, impressive views of one of the deepest canyons on the planet. We descend to Chiquisca and later to Playa Rosalina, the first camp of our excursion.
We start our activity very early with an energetic breakfast to begin the ascent on the other side of the Apurímac canyon towards the town of “Santa Rosa”, continuing with the ascent we arrive at our lunch place "Marampata", from this point we are getting close to Choquequirao. In the afternoon we begin to visualize the archaeological center of Choquequirao and arrive at nearby terraces where we will have our second camp.
Early with the first rays of sun we began the exploration of the archaeological complex of Choquequirao; temples, warehouses and houses will be part of the tour in addition to the history that it implies. After our experience with many photos, we will return to the camp for our belongings and star the process to descent to Santa Rosa, where we will have our lunch. We continue our descent to Playa Rosalina and later we will arrive at our last camp "Chiquisca".
We will start this last day with breakfast, as is customary, and we will walk towards Capuliyoc. Where we arrive at lunch time this is the point where we say goodbye to our walking group (muleteers and cooks). Later we will take our vehicle in the direction of Cusco city.
